Community Build Garden on the Goodman-LeGrand Museum Grounds

Help build the new garden for the Goodman-LeGrand Museum! It will include the plants, trees and shrubs that were on the grounds of the home at the time the family lived there. 

There are two opportunities to get involved in shaping the new space.  

The museum will have a community build workday for the garden area on Friday, Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon, located at 624 N. Broadway Ave. 

Sponsorship funds are needed to help finish this long-awaited project. The project list includes garden soil, landscape borders, crushed granite for the walkways, pine straw, new irrigation, fencing, gates, and plants.  

The new garden area will also include a pergola, outdoor seating, and a restored version of the Goodman family’s greenhouse. Recently, a new sidewalk and cement pad for the pergola were installed. 

“This garden area will be used as a teaching area for the Smith County Master Gardeners as well as to host events and for those who are garden lovers to walk through” said Debbie Isham, the Museum’s curator and supervisor. 

The Goodman-LeGrand Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. A suggested $3 donation per visitor supports the daily operations of the museum. All contributions go toward maintaining the historic home.
