About Legacy Trail South

Legacy Trail phase I begins off of W. Cumberland near Faulkner Park across from Cherryhill Drive with a trailhead located at the entrance to Three Lakes Parkway off of Old Jacksonville Highway, south of FRESH by Brookshires. Following the trail from this point southwest will lead you past Toll 49 towards Flint. Portions of the trail are maintained by Smith County, as well as by the Tyler Parks & Recreation Department. There are two designated parking areas for this trail section - the first located at the intersection of Three Lakes Pkwy and Old Jacksonville Hwy and the second is located just south of Crosslake Blvd on Mahar Rd.

Legacy Trail phase I, officially opened in July 2019. City of Tyler. The 4.5-mile trail, featuring 10-foot-wide concrete paths runs on the eastern and western sides of Old Jacksonville Highway; running Toll 49 and continuing toward Flint. The trail is situated on the Old Cotton Belt train route which was instrumental in the growth of East Texas. Portions of this trail section are maintained by Smith County, as well as by the Tyler Parks & Recreation Department.

About Legacy Trail North

Legacy Trail phase II begins at the site of the future Stewart Park and runs north along Frankston Highway, along Old Noonday Road, and continues north until it intersects with W.E. Winters Park and ends at Peete Elementary. There are two designated parking areas for this trail section - the first is located at the Stewart Park trailhead off of Frankston Hwy and the second is located at W.E. Winters Park.

Legacy Trail phase II, officially opened in January 2026. The 2-mile trail, featuring 12-foot-wide concrete paths begins at the site of the future Stewart Park and runs north along Frankston Hwy, along Old Noonday Rd, and continues north until it intersects with W.E. Winters Park and ends at Peete Elementary. There are plans to further expand the trails in the future and eventually connect phases I and II.
